September 5, 2025
On Friday, September 5, 2025, I was told that I would finally be allowed to see my son, Bennett, in person—after being cut off from him since August 28, 2025. The condition, however, is that I can only see him once he “settles” into the very resource placement I declined back at the beginning of August because of serious safety concerns, including the lack of medical oversight and trained staff. Who is going to determine if and when he does “settle”? And how are people who only met him a week ago expected to tell the difference between masked distress and genuine tolerance? And realistically, how is he supposed to settle under these circumstances?
For over a week, Bennett has been without contact with his mother or his trusted care team. Now I am being told that reunification with him depends on placement in an environment his medical and behavioural professionals warned against.
This is not how safe, family-centered care should work. Bennett deserves stability, continuity, and the people who know how to keep him safe.
